Dolomite

Metaphysical Properties of Dolomite

• Element: Earth
• Birthstone: N/A
• Chakras: All

As a earth-based stone, Dolomite is excellent for achieving calm, centeredness and balance. It counteracts moodiness and reduces one's ego while encouraging one to become more charitable in their emotions and actions. When Dolomite is held or worn, it helps to stop the leak of vital energies, resulting in an increase of energy within the physical body. It helps us remain cheerful and optimistic when dealing with the challenges and tasks of daily life. Dolomite is a stone of humility, patience, and loyalty to one's path in life. It is especially helpful to those who have difficulties in finishing what they've started or who tend to be complacent in performing "menial" work. Physically, it supports self healing through energetically detoxifying the liver and eliminating heavy metals from the body. It also soothes the nervous system and reduces stress

Chemical Composition of Dolomite

• Hardness: 3.5 to 4
• Crystal System: Rhombohedral
• Composition: Calcium Magnesium Carbonate

Dolomite is a calcium magnesium carbonate, a very common mineral with saddle-like curved crystal aggregates. It can also form into granular or massive specimens. Dolomite is both a mineral and a rock. The rock is composed primarily of Dolomite with impurities like Calcite, Quartz, and Feldspar. Dolomite is formed in magnesium limestone and in hydrothermal veins. While it is found in the layers of ancient hills and hard-rocked surfaces, Dolomite crystals cannot be found on the earth's surface. Dolomite is utilized to create a medical constituent known as magnesia. It is also used in soil mixtures to lower the acid levels of the soil. Dolomite typically forms alongside other minerals like Calcite, Pyrite, Chalcopyrite, Marcasite, Galena, Fluorite, Celestine (Celestite), Gypsum, Barite, Malachite, and Quartz. It appears in a color range of white, gray, brown, pink, or green. Significant deposits of Dolomite crystals are found in Spain, Italy, India, Morocco, Canada, Zaire, Namibia, and China.
