Metaphysical Properties of Chrysocolla

• Element: Water
• Birthstone: Gemini, Virgo, Taurus
• Chakras: Root (1st), Heart (4th), Throat (5th)

Chrysocolla is a cardinal Water element stone, governing the flow of energy and communication. It is effective at opening and cleansing the Throat Chakra, allowing one to channel the loving knowledge of the heart and inner wisdom to others. It is also helpful to those who are afraid of speaking from their hearts so this stone encourages one to share our true selves, without artifice or masks. Chrysocolla is associated with tranquility, intuition, patience and unconditional love. Through its gentle and peaceful emanations, Chrysocolla is considered a stone of empowerment of the feminine energies and this can be a particularly helpful ally to help calm the fiery individual. It can also benefit those seeking to release the old patterns of negative emotions such as criticism, sarcasm, and fear. It assists in the release of stress, anxiety, and other fear-based imbalances in the body.

History of Chrysocolla

In ancient Egypt, it was called the 'wise stone' as those who wore it generally came up with clever ideas when situations seem daunting. It was also thought it would protect the wearer against psychological damage as well. Lore also tells that this stone had the power to make more violent people more sensitive and tolerant, which is apparently why Cleopatra carried Chrysocolla with her everywhere she went. Chrysocolla is known as a healing stone among Native American Indian cultures where it was used for strengthening the body's resistance and bringing about calm feelings where there is upset.

Chemical Composition of Chrysocolla

• Hardness: 2 to 4
• Crystal System: Amorphous
• Composition: Hydrous Copper Silicate

Chrysocolla is a hydrous copper silicate commonly found in oxidized copper deposits, often alongside Azurite and Malachite. The colors range from an intense green to blue to blue-green, and is caused by its copper content. Its crystal system is amorphous, and it occurs mostly in closely packed aggregates, and sometimes in botryoidal, stalactitic, fibrous, or earthy forms. Due to its low hardness, Chrysocolla is typically used as a gemstone. Although Chrysocolla is extracted from copper deposits in arid regions, they are found throughout the world. In addition to forming alongside Azurite and Malachite, Chrysocolla also forms with Quartz, Limonite, and Turquoise. Sometimes it is mixed with Malachite, Turquoise and Azurite to create an Eilat Stone. Chrysocolla deposits are found in Chile, Zaire, Australia, France, England, Mexico, Russia, and the USA.
