What is Amazonite? Amazonite is a translucent to opaque feldspar stone with a beautiful green color. It is the green variety of the mineral Microcline. Although Amazonite is supposedly named after the Amazon River of South America, interestingly there are no Amazonite deposits to be found in the region. We can only presume that the stone was named to resemble the lush and vibrant green colors of the rainforest. The stone itself can have irregular color distribution and is often found with white lines or alternating streaks in its display. There is a wide variation of colors for Amazonite, ranging from light green to bluish green with the deep forest green being the most desirable. Amazonite may sometimes be confused with Green Aventurine but can be easily distinguished with its lack of the glitter effect, which is commonly found on Aventurine. Significant deposits of Amazonite can be found in Russia, Myanmar, India, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Australia, Brazil, and the United States.
